For this intervention, we were contacted after the client noticed abnormal noises during the luffing and lowering of the boom of a mobile harbour crane. Since such signals often indicate wear or mechanical damage, the crane was immediately inspected by one of our technicians.
During this inspection, bearing damage was detected on the cable sheaves. After dismantling the components, it became clear that not only the bearings were damaged, but also the bearing seat of the cable sheave had suffered severe damage.
To make the cable sheave fully operational and reliable again, the damaged seat was repaired by installing a bushing. In addition, we manufactured a new shaft to rebuild the complete assembly within the correct tolerances.
After repairing the cable sheave and installing new bearings, all components were carefully reassembled and aligned, after which the crane was brought back into operation.
