Thermal lancing

The most powerful solution to stubborn mechanical problems

Some situations can’t be resolved with the standard box of tools. When bolts, axles or structural parts seize up, get damaged, or are inaccessible, thermal lancing is an ideal solution. At Aerts Electro Mechanics, we’re experts in this specialist technique and know how to control it safely and efficiently. It’s an ideal strategy for disassembling, cutting and dismantling projects in heavy industrial environments.

What is thermal lancing?

Thermal lancing is a process in which a metal tube is filled with steel rods and oxygen and ignited. The tube heats up to over 3,000 °C, an intense heat which can be used to burn rapidly through steel, concrete or other hard materials. It’s a high precision technique that avoids damage to the surrounding structure.

Applications of thermal lancing

  • Cutting away axles, pins or joints that have seized up
  • Removing heavily damaged or rusted machine parts
  • Burning open or cutting through thick steel
  • Dismantling and overhauling dock cranes and industrial plants

Our engineers have specialist training to carry out these tasks in accordance with highly stringent safety standards. Every project is carefully planned and prepared and all our work is done with attention to precision and control.
