Replacement of Hoist Brake on Grab Crane
– Heidelberg Materials Ghent

For this intervention, we were responsible for the supply and installation of a new hoist brake, including a new Eldro thruster, on a grab crane at Heidelberg Materials in Ghent.

During a routine inspection of the crane, it was discovered that the existing hoist brake showed significant wear at the pivot points. The excessive play in these components compromised the proper operation of the braking system, making replacement necessary.

As no spare brake assembly was available on site, Aerts Electro Mechanics provided a complete replacement solution, including a new hoist brake and Eldro thruster, ensuring the crane could be returned to service as quickly as possible.

Following the necessary preparations and safety measures, the works commenced with:

  • Isolating and securing the crane installation
  • Dismantling the existing hoist brake
  • Removing the worn Eldro thruster
  • Inspecting mounting points and mechanicalconnections
  • Installing the new hoist brake
  • Mounting and connecting the new Eldro thruster
  • Adjusting and testing the complete braking system

The intervention was carried out using our own crane truck, allowing all lifting and installation activities to be completed safely and efficiently without the need for additional external equipment.

After installation, all settings were checked and the braking system was thoroughly tested. Upon successful completion of the tests, the grab crane was returned to service in a safe and reliable operating condition.

Result: a fully renewed hoist braking system with a new Eldro thruster, restored to reliable operating condition and ready for continued use in daily bulk handling operations.
