During the annual summer shutdown, Aerts Electro Mechanics carried out various maintenance and overhaul works at the Heidelberg Materials Benelux site in Ghent.
Thanks to these planned interventions, the customer was able to increase the reliability of the installations and reduce the risk of unexpected downtime in the future.
Two travel drive gearboxes on the reclaimer were replaced. As the original gearboxes are no longer available, the customer opted to proactively switch to a standard model that is readily available. Aerts Electro Mechanics handled the complete dismantling of the existing gearboxes and the installation of the new units.
During a previous maintenance shutdown, the hydraulic cylinders of a press were replaced. At that time, it was found that the damping blocks and associated steel plates were severely worn. Due to the limited shutdown period available, their replacement was postponed. During this summer shutdown, the new components were installed. Due to their complex position, this intervention required a well-considered approach and specialised lifting work.
During the scheduled overhaul of the chain rollers of an elevator, inspection revealed that the wear plates of the guides were also severely worn. To restore the installation to reliable operating condition, the old guides were removed and new guides were fabricated on site and welded onto the frame. Thanks to flexible planning, this unexpected repair could be carried out immediately.
Necessary maintenance work was also carried out on a grab crane. During a previous inspection, play had been detected in several guide rollers for the hoisting and closing ropes. During the summer shutdown, these rollers were dismantled using a truck-mounted aerial work platform with a working height of 51 metres. After cleaning, the running surfaces of the rollers were also found to be damaged. An urgent repair was therefore carried out so that the crane could safely be put back into service on time.
